The Senate
Senate is the legistlative body of SGA. Senators are elected every year. The senator’s job is to reflect the opinions of all students at IIT and act as the liaison between students and the administration.
In addition to voting on new and existing student organizations, senators work within subcommittees on projects to improve IIT in various areas.
Academic Affairs Committee.
The Academic Affairs Committee, led by the Vice President of Academic Affairs, investigates matters, and proposes action to improve the academic programs and endeavors of the University. Members in this committee work closely with IIT academic faculty to accomplish changes and improvements required by the students. Some projects completed by the Academic Affairs committee include:
- Foreign Language Program
- TA Evaluations
- Academic Advising Improvements
- Galvin Library Open 24/5
- Shimer Cross-Registration
- Headphones in Library
Student Life Committee.
The Student Life Committee, lead by Vice President of Student Life, investigate matters and to suggest action in order to improve the quality of student life. Students in this committee work to address issues related to campus life, and to suggest new ideas to improve the student experience. This committee works closely with IIT Office of Campus Life, Housing, Union Board, Greek Life, Keating and the Athletic Department.
Some projects completed by this committee include:
- Student Discount Card (with increasing growth in participating businesses)
- SSV Chalk
- Indoor Soccer
- Commuter Lounge in the Bog
- Center Court Burritos
- New Water Fountains
Communications Committee.
The Communications Committee, lead by the Vice President of Communications, is responsible for promoting the affairs of SGA, and to help ensure that all branches of SGA project a unified image to the IIT community through campus media and any other available means.

- Suggestion Boxes
- Tech News Articles
- University Calendar
- Google Apps for Education
