Dear Student Organizations,
I hope this release meets you well into your planning processes for our upcoming budget cycle. The purpose of this letter is to clarify details on how to go about using funds allocated by Finance Board within your organization.
As most of you should have received in the decision letters, lump sums of money were approved for your organization to use on the different categories of funding (Programming, Operation, Capital, Competition, and Conference) as opposed to the traditional line item micro-budgeting allocations that have been sent out in the past. Questions regarding how the monies allocated should be distributed will be clarified following;
First and foremost, allocated money is to be used in conjunction with a pdf file which accompanies decision letters (together with the decisions or on another date). The file will contain numbers showing how Finance Board expects monies to be used. Restrictions as to using funds allocated will be;
Funds cannot be used on specifically restricted items; either in the letter or according to the university’s policies
Funds can only be used for items with numerical values allocated (including 0). If a particular item or event is denied, SAF money cannot be used for that event
Money will be allowed to move between items that have numerical values attached to them, but not between categories (i.e. programming, capital, conference, operation, competition) without special permission
