A note to the incoming freshmen

First of all, I would like to congratulate and welcome you to IIT! Not only in the next few years will you earn an education unlike anywhere else, but you will have the opportunities to meet outstanding people and personally make a difference that our tenacious university provides. As Vice President of Student Life, I thoughtfully invite you to discover this possible change you can make. Student Life is a committee within the Student Government Association, one of the most influential student organizations on campus. While the Student Government Association is responsible for acting as a connection between the university administration and the student body to express student opinion, the Student Life Committee within SGA is responsible for acting as a direct connection between students and campus experience. While Student Life has accomplished such feats as bringing back the BOG, improving security on campus, and providing students more pleasurable studying facilities, there is still a lot we have to look forward to. There are already numerous tasks we are planning for this coming year, such as bringing back old traditions through our new TradIITions Committee, improving student health services, increased student/faculty events, and any ideas you have to offer.

The Student Life Committee is currently made up of students just like yourself. However, because it is so important to have the input of your freshman class, I am inviting you to come and join Student Life. Our campus may be small, but it provides us with immense opportunities that can only be carried through with your opinions. Student Life Committee meetings will be held biweekly throughout the school year and I sincerely invite you to come and provide your input, meet new people, and make a difference. Meeting dates and times will be posted on our website, sga.iit.edu. And please, always feel free to always email me suggestions or questions at smorton@iit.edu. I look forward to meeting you this year, good luck with everything!
